Looming Election Could Mean Disaster For Marijuana In 2016

The upcoming 2016 presidential elections are looming, Medical Marijuanaand with them come many questions about what this could mean for Americans. Supporters of marijuana legalization are wondering just where the current candidates stand when it comes to the subject of the cannabis drug reform. Is it likely that they are going to support the use of medicinal marijuana or even marijuana legalization for recreation use?

Why Are Supporters Of The Cannabis Collective So Concerned?

The debate about marijuana has more to do with simply support or opposition to the drug. It is important for candidates to make themselves clear about what will happen when it comes to federal and state legislation. The current laws allow states to make their own rules when it comes to state-wide marijuana legislation, whilst the federal government has its own guidelines too. It is important for voters to know each candidates views so that they can make an informed decision about which candidate best supports their views.

Which Candidates Are In Favor Of Legalization?

Bernie Sanders and Lincoln Chafee are both democratic candidates. They have both made it clear that they are in supMedical Marijuanaport of allowing citizens to use and carry small quantities of pot without penalty. They also support medicinal use of marijuana. These candidates have even expressed an interest in creating federal decriminalization of cannabis, which would be a huge step for the future of marijuana in America. Other democratic candidates, Hillary Clinton and Martin O’Malley have shown an interest in legalizing the drug.

The republican camp however still shows resistance against the drug as far as federal legalization goes, but they largely are in support of states having the right to create their own laws. There are some candidates however that are fully opposed to the legalization of cannabis such as Mike Huckabee, and who don’t want to see legalization for either federal or state legislation.

What’s In Store For The Future?

It is a worrying thought for supporters that there could be a huge Medical Marijuanaimpact on medical marijuana reform if the wrong candidate is chosen. There have been many slow but steady changes in accepting the benefits of cannabis with the current president, but if a new candidate is chosen, all of that progress could become undone. The future is uncertain for those businesses that rely on marijuana trade, whilst state economies that have improved since marijuana legalization could also suffer.

Marijuana reform remains an important subject for cannabis collective supporters. It is hoped that the best candidate will be chosen so that those whose health relies on it can have access to this useful substance. So far, it looks like there’s a 50/50 chance that a president will be elected that supports cannabis legalization for America.
