Synthetic Marijuana Overdoses on the Rise

Synthetic Marijuana Overdose

Marijuana has been used for decades as a safe alternative to certain painkillers and medications. So, how is it possible that people are now overdosing from this seemingly “safe” drug? The truth is that people are not overdosing from marijuana but instead from an imposter. Synthetic marijuana sales are on the rise, but not from the marijuana industry. So before you throw out your stash, know how to spot a fake.

The dangers when it comes to synthetic marijuana are on the rise. Even CNN is reporting an alarming number of overdoses. According to www.cnn.com, over one hundred people have overdosed in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This has led the community to issue a serious state of emergency.

Overdoses and drug problems are nothing new for this country either. Over the past decade, Lancaster County has had to deal with the overwhelming heroin epidemic. Since heroin is not as readily available as it used to be, people are turning to synthetic marijuana. In fact, all of these synthetic marijuana overdose happened in a span of less than a week.

What is synthetic marijuana?

Synthetic marijuana, otherwise known as K2, uses chemicals in order to mimic THC. THC is bound together by compound natural chemicals, and dealers are using dangerous chemicals in hopes to replicate THC. While some of the side effects may be the same, the risk is far too high to consider it.

These types of synthetic strains are far more potent than THC. When used in high dosages patients will experience a number of side effects that are not pleasant. These include vomiting, chest pain, dizziness, blackouts, loss of vision and even a dangerously increased heart rate. When too much of synthetic weed is ingested, the results can be near fatal.

Patients who were admitted to the ER from an overdose had a multitude of dangerous symptoms. Most notable, patients were either unresponsive or dangerously aggressive. Many patients had to be physically restrained. This is because K2 has been known to affects responses which led to a complete change in behavior.

The best way to avoid putting yourself in a dangerous situation is to always obtain your cannabis from a certified dealer. This means that you should stick to your caregivers and local dispensaries. These synthetic strains are placing a shadow on the cannabis community. This is also helping to fuel the fire inside anti-marijuana lawmakers.

Is it possible to overdose on marijuana?

In short, it is not possible. You would need to inject a large amount of THC in a very small amount of time in order for marijuana to be fatal. Someone would need to smoke over an ounce of product single-handedly in little to no time. This is humanly impossible. The most that will happen to you by smoking too much marijuana is that you will sleep it off.

In most cases where K2 is used, the patients are teenagers. This is because there is a strict age limit on medical marijuana, so teens are looking for another outlet. Unfortunately, this leads them to use dangerous products. So, how do we put an end to “spice”? The best thing to do is to spread the word. Keeping a product like this off the street is the first step to healing a community.

Seriously, I agree with Jenny, wholeheartedly, this is dangerous product, which needs to be removed from the shelves, so our children don’t fall prey to such gimmicks
