Uses For Medical Marijuana

Marijuana Can Be Used to Treat Glaucoma

The eye disease known as glaucoma causes the pressure in the eyeball to increase. This damages the optic nerve and ends up in loss of vision. Marijuana can be used to treat and prevent glaucoma, as it decreases the pressure in the eye, according to the National Eye Institute. The effects of marijuana slow down the way the disease is progressing, and in the end, it may prevent blindness.

A study conducted in 2013 shows that marijuana can prevent the seizures epilepsy is causing. Robert J. Like THC, other active chemicals in marijuana, bind to the brain cells that control excitability and regulate relaxation.

Marijuana Stops Cancer From Spreading

The researchers at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco informed in 2007 that CBD prevent cancers from spreading. The study was published in the Molecular Cancer Therapeutics journal, and explained how cannabidiol turns off a gene known as Id-1. Cancer is triggered by the fact that cancer cells make more copies of this gene than of non-cancerous cells, and this way the cancerous cells spread through the entire body. The scientists studied breast cancer cells in the lab, which after being treated with cannabidiol, had lower Id-1 expression and were less aggressive spreaders.
