Marijuana’s Long History in Culver City

In the early 20th century, cannabis became extremely popular throughout the United States. It was initially hemp, and people only began calling it marijuana after the introduction of Mexican hemp cigarettes. At this time, people were using it for a variety of reasons, from making clothes to medicines. It was only later that prohibition began, when the Food and Drug Act started drafting regulations for it.

Today, states have control over their own marijuana laws, even though the federal government considers marijuana illegal. Legalization began with Proposition 215 in 1996. Voters approved the use of cannabis for medical reasons, allowing patients to cultivate their own. Culver City used the state’s marijuana laws to enact their own ordinances for cannabis.

With recreational marijuana use now legalized under 2016’s Proposition 64, as well, city councils have been differing with the state’s laws. Some are opting for illegal federal views, banning cultivation and distribution both medicinally and recreationally. Culver City is not one of them, choosing instead to regulate marijuana use in its jurisdiction and create rules for people to follow.

Several regulatory ordinances have gone through the City Council of Culver City. One of them is Chapter 9.11 of the Municipal Code, which protects people from secondhand smoke by prohibiting smoking in multi-unit housing. With other Los Angeles cities, Culver City was waiting for the 2016 general election to determine how to enforce marijuana laws, as Proposition 215 made regulation a challenge.

Under Proposition 215, it is legal to cultivate and transport marijuana. However, there are still far too many cases entering the justice system. Uncertainties abound and there is much confusion surrounding the use of weed. Proposition 64 instigated significant marijuana reform and it is slowly eliminating this type of insecurity by forcing city councils to adapt its provisions.

Under the city’s zoning codes, Culver City may not establish marijuana facilities in its jurisdiction. Now, with Proposition 64 enacted, it will have to hold public discussions to establish the next step for general marijuana use. The City Council must amend its Municipal Code to adopt the provisions contained in Proposition 64. The “No Grow” degree may well change in the near future.

Cultivation has been a legal grey area for many years. Current zoning rules do not clarify whether people may grow in unincorporated areas, and while a temporary ban is effective for 45 days, federal law allows counties to extend this to two years. Culver City must examine the impact of cultivation, testing, processing, and distribution on the environment and the community.

Legal Marijuana Delivery Service in Culver City

After the enactment of the Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act, Los Angeles’s interim regulatory ordinances have been influencing Culver City’s operations. This Act allows cannabis growers and distributors to receive state-issued licenses, but the Los Angeles Council has been strict on marijuana dispensaries in unincorporated areas, prosecuting individuals with establishments in them.

Crackdowns forced residents to buy their medicine elsewhere. Legalization of recreational cannabis changes all this. It is now legal for a marijuana dispensary in Culver City to operate, provided it has a license. The City Council will have to adapt itself to Proposition 64. You never need to visit another dispensary again if you order our cannabis delivery service in Culver City. We are licensed and legal.
