A Short History of Weed in Orange County
Cannabis arrived in California during the late 19th century on Spanish ships. They were bringing hemp to the New World, where it quickly became immensely popular. By the time the 20th century began, cannabis sativa was growing happily on many small farms. The name “marijuana” is Mexican, however. When Mexicans starting arriving in numbers, the populace adopted it into everyday language.
This blissful time of uninhibited cultivation did not last. Prohibition began with the 1907 Poison Law, enacted by the State of California. It restricted hemp production on a massive scale, but it failed miserably. In 1913, government tightened this law to restrict growing, possession and use even further. It also failed. In response, the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act made non-compliance a criminal offense.
State officials were having a very difficult time enforcing prohibition during this time. Conspiring with the California Board of Pharmacy, they began initiating various anti-drug campaigns to ban it altogether. They had some success for several decades, but as time crept by, a movement to legalize cannabis grew into a populist wave that spread throughout California and eventually across the United States.
The legalization movement had its humble beginnings here in California, despite the state’s history of extreme antagonism toward it. Today, it is legal for any adult to grow, buy and use, under heavy regulations, of course. However, the federal government still classifies marijuana as an illegal Schedule 1 drug under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970.
Despite resistance from the federal government to legalize, or perhaps because of it, states are now making their own cannabis laws. Most are legalizing at a rapid pace, but some are just choosing to decriminalize. States are amending laws to follow in California’s wake, which approved Proposition 215 in 1996 and then Proposition 64 in 2016. Now, any legal adult can access cannabis in California.
Although lawmakers are forever amending regulations, adults now have the right to grow as much as they need for health purposes, and up to 12 small plants or 6 mature ones for recreational use. Anyone over the age of 21-years can have up to eight grams of concentrate or an ounce of bud on their person at any given time. However, the law considers carrying more than that illegal dealing.
Legal Weed Delivery in Orange County Only
Regulations are strict in the legal cannabis marketplace, particularly about where you can access marijuana and how. If you want to grow more than the stipulated amount of plants, a hefty tax will apply. This is also true of anyone wanting to sell. However, because the law is still undergoing major changes, there is still much confusion about setting up legal operations.
The state has the authority to regulate all growth, sales and transport of cannabis in Orange County. Only licensed businesses can operate legally within its jurisdiction. Buying weed from any unlicensed operation is unlawful, as is the case with using delivery services. If caught supporting the black market in any way, the law may still charge you for illegal conduct.
Only use licensed marijuana outlets when buying pot in and around here. If ordering online, make sure that the business is operating legally and has a license to conduct cannabis delivery. Pot Valet is licensed, legal, and very discreet. Your order will arrive on your doorstep within an hour of checking out. Those in remote, rural locations can still order delivery, but you may only get it the next business day.
